SUMMARY:Bike Rodeo (K-8)
DESCRIPTION:Sign your kids up for our annual Bike Rodeo to give them a healthy and fun dose of essential bike safety and handling skills! Participants first visit an array of stations including helmet fit (where we check for proper helmet fit and distribute helmets if needed)\, bike fit and bike maintenance (to ensure bike is well fitted to the youth and also safe to ride)\, students then learn some basic rules of the road and hand signals\, get to decorate their bike helmets if they like\, and then head out onto our bike course led by Certified Cycling Instructors. This event is FREE thanks to generous sponsorship by Friends of Lexington Bikeways and time donated by Lexington Cycle and Battle Road Bikes and many volunteers. Youth are signed up in half-hour increments by age and families can expect to spend about an hour in total at the event. The performance will take place at the Waltham Street Stage Area\, located at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Waltham Street. \nThe “Sounds of the 1700s” series presents music contemporary to the April 19\, 1775 skirmish on the Lexington Battle Green. \nThe program includes: \n– Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto in G major for Solo Violin\, Strings and Continuo\, Op. 3 “L’Estro Armonico”\, No. 3\, RV 310 \n– Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 4 in D major\, K. 218 \n– Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 3 in Eb major for Violin and Piano\, Op. 12\, No. 3 \n– Johann Sebastian Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 in G major for Violin\, Two Recorders\, Strings and Continuo\, BWV 1049 \nSeveral “Americana” pieces will also be performed. \nRepertoire includes: \n– Aaron Copland: “Hoe-Down” from his ballet Rodeo \n– Aaron Copland: Fanfare for the Common Man (arranged by Letitia Hom) \n– Battle Hymn of the Republic\, with sing-along (arranged by Letitia Hom) \nBased in Lexington\, Massachusetts since 1984\, Lexington Violin School & Lexington Strings are musicians Vida Baterina Hom\, Letitia Hom\, Yukiko Ueno Egozy and Michael Valdez.
