SUMMARY:Voices on the Green - Breaking Away
DESCRIPTION:Voices on the Green – Lexington’s premier live storytelling and music series – presents the second of four shows in collaboration with the 250th celebration. This show\, held just two weeks before April 19th\, will focus on songs and stories about “Breaking Away.”. \nWhile at least one story will be a historic re-enactment\, most of the evening’s stories will be contemporary – true stories told by people who live or work in Lexington\, Their stories will focus on personal experiences of Breaking Away – from home\, from school\, from friends or lovers\, from partnerships\, from employers\, from national identities\, from personal beliefs. \nVoices on the Green is hosted by First Parish Church\, located directly on the Green. This special series is supported by a generous grant from the Community Endowment of Lexington. Tickets are free\, but because crowds have typically been at or near capacity\, pre-registration is highly recommended. \nFor more information\, visit voicesonthegreen.org. \nTickets are free but advanced registration is highly recommended to ensure admission. \nIf you have a story or performer or song to suggest for this show\, reach out to David Rose at dhrose1967@gmail.com before January 28th.

DESCRIPTION:After the 250th Battle of Lexington Anniversary Reenactment\, the morning will pivot to an exciting and never-before-seen Patriotic Performance and demonstration by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington\, in a stunning audio/visual event meant to pay homage to America’s fight for liberty from 1775 to the present day. \nThe event will begin at 11 a.m. with the rededication of the Lexington Battle Green\, beginning with a speaking program featuring the Lex250 Commission\, state and federal government leaders\, and U.S. Army Major Gen. This narrated event will feature a rededication of Army Combat Streamer #1\, symbolizing America’s first combat engagement symbolizing the first shots fired in the American Revolution on April 19\, 1775. \nThis will be followed by a performance by the U.S. Army Fife & Drum Corps and demonstrations by the U.S. Army Drill Team and the Commander-in-Chief’s Guard\, a highly trained and skilled Special Ceremonial Unit\, which harkens back to the Continental Army unit that personally protected Gen. George Washington during the Revolutionary War. \nAt the end of the event\, the soldiers will disperse and mingle with the crowd for a meet and greet and photos with the public. This promises to be an exciting event for all ages! \nAny media interested in interviewing Military District of Washington service members during Lex250\, please reach out to usarmy.mcnair.mdw.mbx.mediadesk-omb@army.mil for scheduling.
