SUMMARY:Meet the Redcoats at Munroe Tavern
DESCRIPTION:The British Regular Army was one of the most powerful military forces in the world in the 18th century. But in the course of one fateful day\, their luck changed. On April 19th\, 1775\, 750 soldiers set out on a grueling 40-mile march\, and walked straight into a revolution. In Lexington and Concord\, they fought with locals intent on thwarting their mission\, and fled back to Boston chased by thousands of American soldiers. SUMMARY:Becoming an Historical Reenactor Workshop II
DESCRIPTION:Learn from world-renown storytellers Rochel Coleman and Valerie Tutson how to bring stories to life on the stage and at an historical site. \nLearn how to bring the stories of the Black men and women who played important roles in the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19\, 1775. Also\, help to build their 18th century community by learning to tell the stories of the men and women\, Black\, White\, and Indigenous Caribbean who were their family members\, friends\, patrons\, and enslavers. \nLearn storytelling techniques and frameworks to identify\, craft\, and share stories to inspire audiences. \nAnd learn the business of storytelling and reenacting from professionals with decades of experience. \nABCL’s Black Patriots of Lexington is a multi-pronged project that includes a nine-part series that explores the lives of 5 soldiers who fought in Lexington on April 19\, 1775; three Black men who witnessed the battle as Lexington residents and later enlisted in the Continental Army; and two Black women and one Black man who witnessed the first day of war. Of the 8 soldiers\, 3 were born into land-owning\, tax-paying families and 5 were born into enslavement. All served their nascent country well and 7 of the 8 are known to have died free men. \nThe project also includes portrait banners of the 11 featured Black Patriots and two workshops to help create a community of storytellers and reenactors that can bring these amazing 18th century lives to a 21st century audience. \nABCL’s Black Patriots of Lexington is supported by a Community Endowment of Lexington grant. \nReserve your spot: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/black-patriots-of-lexington-becoming-an-historical-reenactor-workshop-ii-tickets-1297073554919?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl

SUMMARY:Voices on the Green: "Risking It"
DESCRIPTION:Voices on the Green -Lexington’s premier live storytelling and music series- presents the third of four shows in collaboration with Lex 250 celebrations. \n\n\n\n“Risking It” Six storytellers\, speaking from their own perspective or embodying that of a historical figure\, will share experiences from their lives that pushed them to take a risk. A teacher in a new job must decide whether to join his colleagues on the picket line. A woman finds the courage to join her husband and daughter rappelling from high cliffs\, despite her fear of heights. We’ll experience the story of a Colonial woman who defied her Tory parents by marrying an officer of the Continental Army. Confronted by a Neo-Nazi\, a man of mixed racial heritage risks physical harm if he voices his viewpoint. We’ll also learn how a kindergartner risked punishment to challenge an unfair rule\, and feel the challenge of a computer programmer who abandoned financial security to pursue his artistic and creative muse. \n\n\n\nAll ages. \n\n\n\nAdmission is free. SUMMARY:4th Annual MLK Day Gospel Concert
DESCRIPTION:Brother Dennis and Friends and the Association of Black Citizens of Lexington come together to celebrate and honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday\, January 18\, 2026 at 2pm at Follen Community Church. \n\n\n\nThe tribute to Dr. King and the civil rights movement will feature spirituals and freedom songs performed by a choir led by Dennis L. Slaughter\, EdM\, DLP. Borther Dennis is founding director of the Boston Community Choir and artistic director of the Boston Pops Orchestra Gospel Choir. \n\n\n\nBrother Dennis and Friends will perform some of the songs that uplifted thousands as they participated in the Freedom Rally in April 1965. The Boston rally occured after President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and months before the enactment of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which was signed in August. This was the first major civil rights protest in the Northeast that was led by Dr. King. \n\n\n\nThe Rev. Dr. Martin King’s April 22\, 1965 address to both Houses of the General Court of Massachusetts will be read by a Lexington High School student. During this address\, Dr. King reminds us that the vision of a new nation conceived in liberty was born in Massachusetts. He also responds to the poignant question “Are we really making progress in the area of race relations?” \n\n\n\nTickets – $25 general admission \n\n\n\nProceeds support the ABCL Scholarship Fund and the Black History Project of Lexington. \n\n\n\nThis concert is ABCL’s 2026 Black History Portrait Banners Concert. \n\n\n\nGet tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mlk-day-concert-are-we-making-progress-in-the-area-of-race-relations-tickets-1977559051357
