From that war\, a new country was born\, and the Lexington Battle Green became known as the Birthplace of American Liberty. 250 years later\, we will gather a local group of aspiring Americans to this historic ground\, as they are formally naturalized as American citizens and become a part of our colorful national tapestry. Join us in welcoming them to the American experiment! \nThis stunning ceremony will also feature remarks from Cameron Hickey\, Lexington resident and CEO of the National Conference on Citizenship; historical context from Steve Cole\, Jr.\, Captain of the Lexington Minute Men; music by Epp Sonin\, founder of the Lexington Music School; and a welcome to our new citizens by naturalized citizen Sophia Ho\, who will share her immigration story with us. A welcome reception for our new citizens is generously sponsored by the National Conference on Citizenship. \nThis event is open to the public\, but seating is extremely limited. DESCRIPTION:Learn from world-renown storytellers Rochel Coleman and Valerie Tutson how to mine the archives and weave primary sources into an engaging story that brings history to life. \nLearn how to bring the stories of the Black men and women who played important roles in the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19\, 1775. Also\, help to build their 18th century community by learning to tell the stories of the men and women\, Black\, White\, and Indigenous Caribbean who were their family members\, friends\, patrons\, and enslavers. \nLearn storytelling techniques and frameworks to identify\, craft\, and share stories to inspire audiences. \nAnd learn the business of storytelling and reenacting from professionals with decades of experience. \nABCL’s Black Patriots of Lexington is a multi-pronged project that includes a nine-part series that explores the lives of 5 soldiers who fought in Lexington on April 19\, 1775; three Black men who witnessed the battle as Lexington residents and later enlisted in the Continental Army; and two Black women and one Black man who witnessed the first day of war. Of the 8 soldiers\, 3 were born into land-owning\, tax-paying families and 5 were born into enslavement. Rosamund Johnson/arr. Heather Sorenson\n“Goin’ To Boston”\, arr. Alice Parker\n“Until All of Us Are Free” by Mark Burrows/ words by Emma Lazarus\n“I Dream a World” by Rosephanye Powell/words by Langston Hughes\n“A Psalm of Praise” by Mabel Daniels\n“Give Me Your Tired\, Your Poor” by Irving Berlin/words by Emma Lazarus\nand much more! \nJoin us Friday\, January 17th\, 7:30 pm and Sunday\, January 19th\, 3:00 pm at Hancock Church\, 1912 Mass.
