SUMMARY:LexSeeHer's Annual Spinning Tableau
DESCRIPTION:On August 31\, 1769\, 45 women gathered at Anna Harrington’s home\, using spinning wheels in an act of public protest just steps from the Town Commons. Learning to spin and making cloth locally was one way to resist King George’s taxation on imported cottons. \nLexSeeHer organizes an annual reenactment of the protest to commemorate the 45 Lexington women who stepped outside with their spinning wheels help fortify a community where – just 6 years later – the first shots of the American Revolution would be fired.

SUMMARY:A New Revolution in Lexington
DESCRIPTION:In 2020\, 16.82% of Lexington’s population was Chinese\, which is proportionally the second-highest Chinese population of the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. Yet just 40 years ago\, Lexington had only 392 Chinese residents – and in 1890\, two. This presentation\, featuring research by Lexington High School student Sophia Zhang and live Q&A with local Chinese American panelists\, aims to discuss and explain the multi-phase evolution of the Lexington Chinese American community\, within broader historical contexts. This presentation will also highlight the civic contributions Chinese Americans have made to Lexington and the community’s place in the town’s ongoing demographic transformation. \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-new-revolution-in-lexington-tickets-940429077687?aff=oddtdtcreator

SUMMARY:Memorial Day Musical Salute
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, May 27 at 11:00 am\, all are invited to observe Memorial Day with a special Musical Tribute to our Armed Forces at Emery Park\, Depot Square\, sponsored by the Town Celebrations Committee. Two students will be invited to read their poems as part of the Musical Tribute. \nEarlier in the day\, there will be a Memorial Walk starting at the entrance to Munroe Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. The public is invited to join the Walk\, which will visit several memorials for a brief wreath-laying ceremony before arriving at Emery Park for the official Memorial Day Ceremony
