SUMMARY:Red Hot Chilli Pipers
DESCRIPTION:It’s Bagpipes. It’s Rock. It’s Bagrock. AC/DC meets the poet Robert Burns. \n\n\n\nIt’s The Red Hot Chilli PIPERS – (NOT the Peppers!) — a 9-piece ensemble consisting of pipers\, guitarists\, keyboards\, and drummers — who have been rocking the world from New York to Beijing to Melbourne and everywhere in between with musicianship of the highest order and a passion for pipes that will leave you breathless. \n\n\n\nSince they walked away with the top prize on the primetime TV talent show\, “When Will I Be Famous” in the U.K. in 2007\, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers haven’t stopped for a breath\, other than to inflate their bagpipes! Formed in 2002\, The Chillis have fast become a global phenomenon\, taking their signature ‘Bagrock’ sound to the masses with their unique fusion of rocked up Bagpipes and clever covers of popular songs from all genres. Their trademarked sound is a unique fusion of traditional pipe tunes – like “The Flowers of Scotland”\, “The Hills of Argyll”\, and “Amazing Grace” (done Chilli-style\, of course!) — and contemporary anthems like Queen’s “We Will Rock You”\, “Clocks” by Coldplay\, “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol\, “Let Me Entertain You” by Robbie Williams\, and a fantastic rock medley of “Deep Purple”\, “Smoke on the Water”\, and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck”. \n\n\n\nGet Tickets: https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/53130865/red-hot-chilli-pipers-lexington-cary-memorial-hall

SUMMARY:Douglass Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Our event\, organized for Black History Month by the Douglass Day organization (DouglassDay.org)\, will be one of about 100 being held across the country and involving thousands of people collaborating in person and online on digital transcriptions aimed at making Black history primary research materials more widely available. This year\, the transcriptions will focus on the materials of the Colored Conventions Project from the University of Delaware. These state and national conventions\, held from the 1830s through Reconstruction\, allowed Black abolitionists and leaders to work toward advancing the legal and civil rights of Black Americans in the 19th century and provided opportunities for leaders like Douglass to rise to prominence. \n\n\n\nThe event will be held from 12-3 pm and include a short transcription tutorial\, viewing of the national Douglass Day broadcast\, several periods of transcription activity\, displays\, and short presentations by local historians on the Colored Conventions\, Frederick Douglass’ visit to Lexington\, Black women honored on the Women’s Monument\, and more. We will also have a birthday cake to celebrate Frederick Douglass’ chosen birthday of February 14. We invite students and educators from local schools as well as the general public to attend. All are welcome. \n\n\n\nThis FREE event is sponsored by the Lexington Lyceum Advocates\, Lexington History Museums\, and LexSeeHer\, and we are actively seeking additional sponsors to help spread the word. All are welcome to share in this moment of connection\, expression\, and collective joy. \n\n\n\nActivator Fair \n\n\n\nThe Lexington Human Rights Committee is pleased to invite you to join us for our Human Rights Activator Fair onJanuary 19th\, 2026. \n\n\n\nEach year\, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through community service. In that spirit\, we launched the Activator Fair last year as a way to transform inspiration into meaningful action. This year\, we are again bringing together local organizations and community members to highlight volunteer opportunities that advance human rights and civil rights. \n\n\n\nWe invite you to spend a couple of hours with us\, sharing the projects you’re working on and the ways others can get involved. The fair will feature tables where participating organizations can showcase initiatives that promote a future rooted in equality\, freedom\, and inclusion. If you have a human-rights–focused project that could benefit from volunteers\, we encourage you to host a table. This is an opportunity not only to recruit support\, but also to expand your volunteer network beyond the usual circles. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we can build a future with greater dignity for all people! \n\n\n\nCommunity Conversation on Race \n\n\n\nOn March 17\, 1966 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a powerful speech Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas\, Texas. Dr. King delivered a powerful address in which he reflected on the state of racial integration in America. He began by saying: \n\n\n\n“I would like to have you think with me this afternoon on the subject of the future of integration… We have come a long\, long way\, but we still have a long\, long way to go.” \n\n\n\nThese words continue to resonate today. While the Civil Rights Movement emphasized collective action\, it also highlighted the power of individual empowerment. Dr. King frequently spoke about the ability of ordinary people to create change through nonviolent action\, courage\, and moral responsibility. \n\n\n\nJoin the Lexington Human Rights Committee for a community conversation about the state of racial integration in Lexington today. We have indeed come a long way—and yet\, as Dr. King reminded us\, we still have a long way to go.

SUMMARY:Annual Reenactment of Lexington's 1773 Tea Party
DESCRIPTION:On December 13\, 1773\, unfair British taxes were on everyone’s mind as three ships sat in Boston harbor\, carrying shipments of East India Company tea. Lexington Town Meeting concluded a multi-day debate with a resolution to stop purchasing or drinking imported British tea. The crowd spilled out onto the common behind the meeting house and made a bonfire\, throwing the entire town’s supply of tea into it. Three days later\, the Boston Tea Party would make headlines\, but Lexington was there first. \n\n\n\nEach year\, Lexington History Museums reenacts this occasion with a day of tea history! Join us for fun\, interactive activities to learn more about why tea was so important to the Revolution. Meet with the Lexington residents of 1773\, portrayed by the Lexington Minute Men\, to hear their side of the story\, find out where tea comes from\, and end the day by gathering around the fire and burning the tea! \n\n\n\nStop by for all the festivities: \n\n\n\nLHM’s Buckman Tavern museum will be open 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM\, with holiday decorations. Admission will be “pay what you can!” \n\n\n\nFrom 12:00 – 3:00 PM\, learn more about the history of tea and its alternatives during the Revolution\, with drop-in activities with Lexington History Museums and the Chinese-American Association of Lexington. \n\n\n\nAt 12:00 PM\, join local children’s book author Sabrina Bhattacharjya in Buckman Tavern for a reading and signing of her new book\, The Midnight Writer\, sharing the story of the Battle of Lexington from the perspective of a young girl of the time. \n\n\n\nFrom 12:00 – 1:00\, meet with the Lexington Minute Men and learn more about the town’s role in the coming Revolution as the fire begins to grow in front of the Visitors Center. \n\n\n\nAt 1:00 PM\, join us to burn the tea! We will open with a performance by the William Diamond Jr Fife and Drum Corps\, and will be throwing real tea in the fire\, generously donated by Mark T.
