LEXINGTON — The Lex250 Commission is pleased to announce that it will host a press conference at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, featuring Massachusetts Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll and documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, to officially kick off the events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington.

The press conference will feature remarks from local and state leaders and distinguished guests, providing an overview of the upcoming commemorative events as well as an important briefing on public safety and transportation logistics in advance of the events.

WHAT:

To celebrate a historic slate of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington, the Lex250 Commission is holding a Kickoff Press Conference at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 17.

The William Diamond Junior Fife & Drum Corps will begin performing at 8:45 a.m. before the official start of the press conference.

Speakers will share highlights of the events commemorating the anniversary celebration and provide insights on what attendees can expect.

“As America gears up to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, here in Massachusetts, we’re already celebrating,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “The Battle of Lexington was the first major battle of the American Revolution. It’s the event that got us one step closer to declaring our independence and it’s the start of the Massachusetts legacy. We’re so excited to celebrate our state and our nation’s storied past while also celebrating our revolutionary spirit that’ll guide the next 250 years.” 

The 250th anniversary events in Lexington will feature a series of educational programs, reenactments, and community celebrations leading up to and beyond Patriots’ Day.

“The 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington is an extraordinary milestone in our nation’s history, and we are honored to bring local, state, and national leaders together to commemorate this moment,” said Lex250 Commission Chair Barry. “We invite the community and members of the press to join us as we reflect on the legacy of April 19, 1775, and the significance it holds today.”
