Antony Park Rededication Ceremony

The town and its sister city of Antony, France, reaffirmed their strong bonds during a ceremony on Friday.

Members of the Select Board and state officials joined with Antony civic leaders in Tower Park, celebrating a long friendship with hopes for the future.

In 1999, Antony dedicated a square to honor Lexington. The Town dedicated its Anton Park public garden area of Tower Park in 2019.

Select Board member Jill Hai, flanked by her colleagues, shared a proclamation that read in part: “Whereas the enduring alliance between the United States and France, rooted in our shared fight for liberty, and formally established with the 1778 Treaty of Alliance, has grown into a deep and multifaceted partnership encompassing the diplomacy, defense, commerce, and cultural exchange, it is fitting to honor this alliance on the anniversary of the first battle of the American Revolution.

Antony officials presented the Town will a large candle in the shape of the bust of Marquis de Lafayette, who visited Lexington on his farewell tour in 1824.
