Lex250 would like to thank our amazing community for their support of the Lex250 celebrations by highlighting a few of our volunteers. We appreciate everyone for their work in making sure our events are a success.
Today, we’re highlighting our volunteer Sudha Balasuryan!

What inspired you to get involved in Lex250, and what does this milestone mean to you personally?
We have been residents of Lexington since 1992 and have loved everything about Lexington ever since! We love its diversity, friendly neighborhood, and the history behind it.
It is the same history and significance which inspired me to get involved in Lex250. My sister and I have been long-time supporters of the Cary Library and informally founded the Indian Americans of Lexington (IAL) in 1995 (formalized 2007) — there is this deep connection with the town and it feels amazing and joyous to be part of this milestone.
Lexington’s history is filled with stories of courage, community, and change. Is there a particular aspect of that history that resonates with you and why?
Yes, we are an extended family who moved in 1992. My sister Geeta’s family and mine live together, and our kids had the wonderful opportunity to grow up together. When we had a loss in the family, the outpouring of support and love from the community was deeply touching and heartwarming. Being away from our home country, friends are family, and we are blessed to have amazing friends in the community.

Being a co-chair for the Lex 250 Town Celebrations Committee (TCC) Dance Around The World event on March 8 and being involved and helping with the Patriots’ Day parade as a TCC subcommittee member.
How do you hope Lexington’s 250th anniversary will inspire future generations?
It is a very significant moment that is already gaining attention from the younger generation. My niece who was born and brought up in Lexington is coming from NY with her husband to walk the parade with us!
What spot in Lexington would you suggest visitors check out?
