Lex250 Commission Highlight: Jillian Tung

In the final days leading up to April 19, the Lex250 Commission would like to highlight our members who have dedicated an incredible amount of time to making our 250th anniversary commemoration a success.

Today, we’re highlighting Jillian Tung!

What specific areas of the Commission’s work are you most passionate about?

As the music and arts representative on the Commission, I am super excited to be able to coordinate performances, events, and of course, our signature public art installation, “Riding Through History.” The exhibit comprises six fiberglass horses that have been decoratively painted by jury-selected artists and installed in Lexington Center. The arts offer a terrific way to help us celebrate important milestones like the Semiquincentennial.

What do you think is the most important aspect of commemorating this milestone?

The 250th is an anniversary that belongs to all of us, not just in Lexington, but in the country. Regardless of background, ethnic origin, or political persuasion, we can find common ground by all sharing in this momentous celebration.

What event or moment are you most looking forward to as part of the 250th anniversary commemoration?

There are two events I just can’t wait for: The Bicentennial Band Concert on Saturday evening, which will feature specially-commissioned pieces, and a performance on Monday afternoon by members of the Boston Pops under the baton of none other than Keith Lockhart.
