Lex250 Commission Highlight: Steve Conners

In the final days leading up to April 19, the Lex250 Commission would like to highlight our members who have dedicated an incredible amount of time to making our 250th anniversary commemoration a success.

Today, we’re highlighting Steve Conners!

What specific areas of the Commission’s work are you most passionate about?

Commemorating the events of April 19th, 1775, through reenactment. The Lexington Minute Men (LMM) Reenactment Committee has invested a tremendous amount of time into making this year’s reenactment special and even more historically accurate. In four distinct scenes, the events of that fateful day and the impact on all of Lexington will be brought to life by hundreds of volunteer reenactors, representing Captain Parker’s militia, the women and children of Lexington and the Kings Troops.

What do you think is the most important aspect of commemorating this milestone?

Major milestones are points in time to reflect on the meaning of events and their consequences. Captain Parker and his militia company did not seek fame or glory by standing in defiance of the Kings Troops on the Lexington Common; instead were asserting their rights and defending their liberties from those that sought to take them away. It can be hard to understand how meaningful that simple act was, it is a lesson from our shared history that we must remember, since our rights and liberties cannot and should not ever be taken for granted.

What event or moment are you most looking forward to as part of the 250th anniversary commemoration?

As a 20-year member and Past Captain of the LMM, I look forward to Patriots’ Day every year, but especially this one as it is the Semiquincentennial Anniversary. I am also excited that it will be my son Ryan’s first year participating in the reenactment as an official member of the LMM.
