
“Drew up in Battalion and were Exercised” – Middlesex County Prepares for War

Commemorate the 250th anniversary of Massachusetts Militia and Minute forces preparing for war by hosting a Battalion-Level Winter Drill.
This will include several militia units, and the Ladies Association of Revolutionary America (LARA), for public demonstrations of 18th Living History.
The event will be commence with a sermon by the Reverend Jonas Clarke, followed by company and battalion-level drills on the Lexington Common. In compliance with the February 14, 1775 orders of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress, the officers of each company will inspect their men to “take a state of their numbers and accoutrements” within each company.
The schedule will be as follows:
1 PM: Battalion Formation and Sermon by the Reverend Jonas Clarke
1:30 PM – 2:30 PM: Company level drills
2:30 PM to 3:15 PM: Battalion-level drill
3:30 – 4:15 PM: Inspections of arms and equipment as ordered by the Massachusetts Provincial Congress
