Nielsen | Symphony No. 4
Holst | The Planets

All ages.

Written in 1916, Nielsen said the word Inextinguishable sums up his Fourth Symphony – “the elemental will to live …. Music is Life. As soon as even a single note sounds in the air or through space, it is the result of life and movement.” These three works exemplify the human spirit that was America in the Revolutionary War. The Ives is a very local Massachusetts story. The Nielsen and the Holst were written in the same year and were influenced by what was in the air in WWI – again, humanity’s desire to live in Freedom from oppression and the forces of evil.
