In the final days leading up to April 19, the Lex250 Commission would like to highlight our members who have dedicated an incredible amount of time to making our 250th anniversary commemoration a success.
Today, we’re highlighting Ashley Rooney!

What specific areas of the Commission’s work are you most passionate about?
I feel strongly about sharing Lexington’s story with others. After the skirmish on the Green, the Americans picked themselves up and went on to fight again that day. That story is a metaphor for life. We may lose, but we can pick ourselves up again and move on.
What do you think is the most important aspect of commemorating this milestone?
Many things make up the Lexington Patriots’ Day Parade: Clowns, bands, balloons, music, jugglers, floats, and, most importantly, people. Lexington takes great pride in its diversity and in bringing many different groups together to work for a common good.
What event or moment are you most looking forward to as part of the 250th anniversary commemoration?
I am looking forward to all those people enjoying the day, remembering our history, and realizing once again that we can stand up for our beliefs.
