Moments That Made 2025 Unforgettable – #6: The Black Patriots and Residents of Lexington

✊ Celebrating the Black Patriots and Residents of Lexington

The combined Black Patriots and Black Residents of Lexington — what do you think of this — To deepen historical understanding and broaden community learning, Lex250 highlighted and supported projects that center voices and stories too often left out of the Revolutionary narrative.

The Black Patriots of Lexington initiative offers a multi-part educational series honoring the service of Black patriots from Lexington and neighboring towns—including several who fought on April 19, 1775. Complementing this effort, The Black Residents of Lexington explores the lives and experiences of Black residents across Lexington’s history, connecting the contributions of Revolutionary-era patriots to the broader story of community, resilience, and civic engagement.

A major milestone was the unveiling of animated videos celebrating Prince Estabrook, Eli Burdoo, and Pompey Fiske, made possible through a grant from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. Estabrook and Burdoo fought in the Battle of Lexington, while Fiske witnessed the battle and later enlisted in the Continental Army.

The videos are now on display at the Lexington Visitors Center, bringing these powerful stories to life. Special recognition goes to historian Sean D. Osborne and the Lexington Visitors Center for their work in illuminating these untold histories, and to the Town of Lexington for documenting and supporting this important initiative.

Together, Black Patriots of Lexington and The Black Residents of Lexington broaden our understanding of the Revolution, affirming that Lexington’s story is shared and shaped by courage, service, and dedication across generations.
