Today’s #CalendarKeeper is Lexington’s own Will Smith!

Will Smith, the 19-year-old rookie for the @SanJoseSharks, returned to his hometown for his first NHL game in Boston and joined the #CountdownTo250 celebration. Selected as the #4 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft—the first American drafted that year—Will’s incredible journey began right here in Lexington, where history and excellence converge.

A third-generation Lexingtonian, Will’s family is deeply woven into the town’s fabric. He attended Hancock Preschool (like his dad, Bill, 40 years earlier) and Bowman Elementary, spending his childhood at @HaydenRecreation, skating on frozen ponds and backyard rinks, and enjoying treats from @ViaLagoCafeAndCatering and @Rancatores.

Will’s career highlights include:

• 🏅 Gold & Silver Medals with the U.S. National Junior Team

• 🏆 MVP of the U18 World Junior Championship

• 🏒 NCAA National Scoring Leader while at @BostonCollege

• 🔥 BC’s All-Time Freshman Point & Assist Leader

His success is built on the Lexington values of excellence, community, and perseverance, inspired by a family legacy of making an impact:

• Will is the great-great-grandson of Charles Comiskey, founder of the Chicago White Sox.

• His grandfather, F. William Smith, was a builder who developed notable Lexington communities, including Russell Square, East Village Condominiums, Potter Pond, Hampton Road, and Dover Lane.

• His mom, Colleen, hosted “LexGo” on @LexMedia, volunteered with the Holiday Lighting Committee, and supported local nonprofits.

• His dad, Bill, graduated from Lexington High School in 1985.

Lexington is proud to count Will among its own, cheering him on as he continues to shine on and off the ice!
