LEXINGTON — The following road closures and parking restrictions will be in place on Saturday, July 13 for a scheduled event on the Lexington Battle Green.
Road Closures:
Massachusetts Avenue will be closed between Harrington Road and Clarke Street from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Traffic to and from Lexington Center will be detoured through the Bedford Street roundabout.
Parking Restrictions:
From 6 p.m. on Friday, July 12 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, parking will be prohibited on both sides of Massachusetts Avenue, between Harrington Road and Clarke Street, and the Battle Green side of Bedford Street, between Massachusetts Avenue and Harrington Road.
The event, being held on Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Lexington Battle Green, will celebrate the 295th birthday of Captain John Parker, a New England farmer, smith, soldier and Colonial militia officer.
Captain Parker is best known for his role in leading the Colonial Militia at the Battle of Lexington, where eight militiamen lost their lives during a skirmish famously described as the “shot heard round the world.”
The Lexington Police Department appreciates the public’s cooperation with these temporary restrictions and advises residents to plan alternate routes if traveling in the area.
