π Today, we proudly spotlight the Never-Fading Poppy Project (NFPP) as our #CalendarKeepers for the #CountdownTo250! πβ¨
Co-founded by Lexington students Jodie Chen, Candice Lin, and Lucy Wei, NFPP is a student-led, not-for-profit organization under the Chinese American Association of Lexington (CAAL). Established in 2020, NFPP focuses on sending handmade cards to local veterans, spreading love and appreciation through art. πΊπΊπΈ
NFPP began in 2020 when five soon-to-be eighth graders created handmade cards for veterans during the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, the project has over 600 participants nationwide who have sent over 5,000 handmade cards to veterans. NFPP participants create cards for MLK Day, Patriotβs Day, July 4th, and Veterans Day, and they also partake in parades like the annual Lexington Veterans Day Parade. Today, fellow project members Amy Ma, Emily Wu, and Lily Xia helped with the #CountdownTo250, demonstrating their commitment to honoring our veterans and enriching our community.
For Memorial Day 2023, NFPP crafted a temporary memorial in downtown Lexington, adorned with over 2,000 handmade paper poppies, honoring fallen military personnel.
This year, once again, NFPP has created a heart-shaped poppy memorial bearing the poignant phrase “Lest We Forget,” set to be displayed for a week after Memorial Day.
NFPP also held a poetry submission event, receiving poems from Lexington High School students about Memorial Day, service, and gratitude. The winning poems How Grand by Vivek Mehta and Unwavering Country: A Familyβs Story by Tasbia Uddin were read at the Memorial Day ceremony. All poems will be published in The Musket and on the Town Celebrations Committee website.
Let’s honor our heroes and ensure their legacies live on. ππ Thank you, NFPP, for your dedication to preserving the memory of those who served. πΊπΊπΈ #Lex250 #MemorialDay #NFPP #HonorAndRemember #CommunityUnity #EternalGratitude
