Volunteer Highlight: Mamata Banerjee

Lex250 would like to thank our amazing community for their support of the Lex250 celebrations by highlighting some our volunteers. We appreciate everyone for their work in making sure our events are a success.

Today, we’re highlighting our volunteer Mamata Banerjee!

What inspired you to get involved in Lex250, and what does this milestone mean to you personally?

I live in the historic Town of Lexington and am a happy volunteer for various causes townwide. I wanted to be a part of Lex250 because it would make me proud if I could make any contribution to this historic event. This milestone is like being a part of history — it gives me goosebumps out of excitement!

Lexington’s history is filled with stories of courage, community, and change. Is there a particular aspect of that history that resonates with you, and why?

All three words resonate with me. I am courageous enough to take steps even if they are not popular or don’t always “go with the flow.” Overall, I listen to my heart and my head and do something that makes me feel accomplished. I already mentioned that I am a happy volunteer, and that comes from a deep sense of community. Change is something I am currently focused on as a community member and as a lifelong educator. I want to see that change — where every child lives with respect and the feeling that they all belong to this town.

What has been the most meaningful or memorable moment for you while working on Lex250 events?

There are so many memorable moments. The first and probably the most important one was that I coordinated community members as volunteers for the first-ever Drone Show in Lexington! It felt awesome to be with a lot of fellow happy volunteers and enjoy the spectacular Drone Show.

How do you hope Lexington’s 250th anniversary will inspire future generations?

I feel every child will be a part of history and will remember forever the fun-filled time that they will be a part of!

What spot in Lexington would you suggest visitors check out?

I was so lucky to be a part of the opening ceremony as a singer for the LexSeeHer monument inauguration event, and that is the place I think every visitor should go, along with Captain Parker’s statue.
